"Wallingford was founded in 1670 by English Puritans from New
Haven. Thirty-eight men and their families made the initial settlement
along what is now the town's Main Street. Originally an agricultural
community, Wallingford began to develop during the industrial revolution.
By the end of the nineteenth century, Wallingford had earned a worldwide
reputation for the production of silverware. With the rise of manufacturing,
the demographics of the town also changed. It attracted new waves of
immigrants. As the town entered the twentieth century, Wallingford reflected
its diversity with one foot in agriculture and the other in industry.
Today, we embrace the richness of our past and the diversity of our
town. We foster business development while preserving historical context.
As we look forward to a bright future, we honor our rich and beautiful
past."
